Kia cee'd (12 - 16)

Kia have come on in leaps and bounds with the design of their cars in the past few years. Added to their famous 7-year warranty, (many of which this generation will still be under), this makes for a strong package for buyers. The latest Ceed looks stylish and has a reasonable price tag making it a serious option in a competitive class. The new designs continue into the cabin, which is spacious and comfortable. There is plenty of room; leg and head space is not an issue, and the boot has lots of storage capability. The driving has improved significantly over the last model, although you could argue that it isn’t quite as sharp as the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, or the Ford Focus. Nonetheless, it has good handling and grip, the ride quality is smooth thanks to an excellent chassis, though the steering lacks feedback and feels somewhat numb at times. But all round this is one of the really good cars on the market, and a foolis one to ignore in this segment.
